OBIT: Robert L. Fair (Ford City)
Robert Leroy Fair, 87, of Ford City, died Saturday, November 23, 2013, in ACMH Hospital.
Born November 20, 1926, in McGrann, he was a son of the late Ralph S. and Mary Ellen (Baker) Fair. Mr. Fair was a lifetime resident of this area.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 in the 1st Special Marine Brigade in Quantico, Virginia, during World War II.
He was employed at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Leechburg and Brackenridge, in the store room, having retired in February, 1988. Mr. Fair enjoyed times at his camp with family and friends, trout fishing, gardening, dancing, and dining out with friends. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Having been a skilled carpenter, he built his own home, in which he lived for the past 57 years, as well as other houses in the area.
Mr. Fair was a member of Appleby Manor Presbyterian Church in Ford City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 46 years, Elma (Johnston) Fair, who died July 20, 1996.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Deborah) Myers of Ford City, Pamela King of Ford City, and Mrs. Dan (Roberta) Ackerson of Indiana; five granddaughters, Tamara Myers, Jan Irwin, Rebecca (Daniel) Lerner, Angela (Frank) Shupe, and Danielle Ackerson; two grandsons, Christopher King and Matt King; one great-grandson, Cameron King; and one great-granddaughter, Julia King. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Allen B. Fair of Ford City; and his endearing companion, Sherry Cozad of Grove City.
Friends will be welcomed from 12 Noon, until the time of services at 2 p.m., on Friday, November 29, 2013, in the Welch Funeral Home in Ford City, with Pastor Lloyd Riggle officiating.
