OBIT: John L. Choncek (Kittanning)
John L. Choncek, 62, of Kittanning, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
He was born October 21, 1950 in Kittanning, the son of Chester and Alma (Greenawalt) Choncek.
John lived in Kittanning all his life and was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
He owned Manor Furniture and Appliances in Ford City and currently served on the Board of Directors for Armstrong County Building and Loan.
John was the past president of the Kittanning Country Club and past president of both the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League and the Armstrong Amateur Hockey League, and was also a lifelong member of BPOE Elks #203.
Golfing was one of John’s favorite hobbies and he also loved his Harley motorcycle, spending time with his family and his cat, Mittens. John will be best remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and generous heart.
John will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Bunny (Gribik) Choncek, whom he married September 17, 1968; two sons: Brian Choncek and companion, Deborah Davenport, of Kittanning, and Patrick Choncek, of Oakmont; two brothers: Chester E. Choncek and wife, Esther, and Michael W. Choncek and wife, Cheryl, all of Kittanning, sister, Sally Henry, of Kittanning; and brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph Gribik and wife, Sue, of Butler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard N. Drennen; two sisters: Patricia Guntrum and Gloria Roncher; and brother-in-law, Dr. Michael Gribik.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM tomorrow - Friday, October 18, 2013 - at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Kittanning, where a Kittanning Elks memorial service will be held at 7PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9AM on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, with the Reverend Douglas E. Dorula officiating.
Burial will follow in Kittanning Cemetery.
