BUFFONE: Championship Predictions

by John Buffone
The participants of Super Bowl XLVII will be decided this weekend when the AFC and NFC Championship games take place. My playoff picks have been relatively solid so far so lets try to keep this train rolling.
Baltimore at New England: The Ravens defeated the Broncos last week in the divisional round in a game that seemed unreal. Linebacker Ray Lewis is playing like he is 27 rather than 37 and seemed focused on getting back to the Super Bowl in his final year. However, Baltimore has to go into Foxboro to take on arguable the best postseason quarterback of all time in Tom Brady. Brady sliced up the Texans last week and is primed to make it to a record six Super Bowls. I originally picked New England to win this game but I’m making a last second switch and going with the more inspired team. I’m taking Baltimore.
San Francisco at Atlanta: The Falcons did everything in their power to try to lose last week to Seattle but still managed to win at the end of regulation. Atlanta is a very talented offensive team but their run to the Super Bowl will come up just short. I’m going with San Francisco not just because I want to see the Harbaugh brother coach against each other in the biggest game in America, but because I believe they are the superior team inside and out. The Falcons have serious issues defending mobile quarterbacks so expect Colin Kaerpernick to have another field day in the Georgia Dome.

Relatively solid? 50% is relatively solid? Well I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder as they say..

To clarify, I predicted the first round on my radio show but didn’t publish. Current record is 6-2. Thanks for reading!

75% is relatively solid, I’ve never heard your radio show, and seldom read your column. But, relatively solid is about right.
