OBIT: Emory Elkin (Smicksburg)
Emory Elkin, 86, of Smicksburg, PA died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Forbes Regional Hospital.
He was born on March 11, 1926 in Loop, Pa., the son of Duff and Nellie (Marshall) Elkin.
Emory graduated from Dayton High School and was a member of Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church. He worked at Dow Chemical Company as a supervisor for 20 years and then at Little Mahoning Pipeline as a supervisor for 20 years before his retirement in 1991.
Emory was gifted in the art of woodworking and made beautiful pieces of furniture. He ran EM&M Crafts with his wife, Marna, and they sold their products at local stores and flea markets. He also enjoyed working in his large garden and raising chickens.
Emory will be remembered for his adventurous spirit and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his three sons: Gary Elkin, of Findlay, Ohio, Steven (Mary) Elkin of Irwin and Gregory (Melanie) Elkin of Punxsutawney; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, David Elkin, of Seattle, Wash.; and three sisters: Sally Wadding, of Loop, PA, Jane Altman, of Findlay, Ohio and Rose Day, of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 53 years, Marna (Altman) Elkin, who passed away February 13, 2011; and brother, Richard Elkin.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow, Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home in Dayton.
Additional visitation will be from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the funeral home, with his nephew Kenneth Elkin officiating.
Burial will be in Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery in Dayton.
