The ACMH Hospital and ACMH Foundation have announced a new safety initiative for those with disabilities.
The EVAC sticker was developed by Allied Health System of Scranton to alert emergency personnel of people who may need assistance evacuating in the event of an emergency. Dr. William Oleksak, a member of the ACMH Hospital Medical Staff who is also a Lt. 2 with the Ford City Fire Department, brought this to the attention of Jodi Beers, Executive Director of the ACMH Foundation.
“Being a firefighter, Dr. Oleksak knows first-hand the difficulties for rescue personnel to locate and rescue persons with disabilities in the event of a fire, flood, natural disaster, or other event requiring emergency evacuation,” stated Ms. Beers. “He has worked diligently obtaining written permission from Allied Health Services to reproduce these stickers.”
The response that Allied Health System has had since their launching has gained nationwide attention. Stickers are being distributed to all local EMS Stations, Fire Departments and all ACMH Medical Staff.
These 5 x 6 inch reflective alert stickers are free of charge. Instructions on proper use of the stickers will be distributed with each one. To request an EVAC sticker or information on the program, please call Jodi Beers at the Foundation office at 724-543-8850.
