George Good

George H. Good, 92, of West Mahoning Township, Smicksburg, PA, died October 24, 2010, at Sugar Creek Station Nursing Home in Franklin, PA.

He was born on December 31, 1917 in Goodville, Indiana Co., PA the son of William L. and Eva M. (Hoover) Good.

Mr. Good was a 1936 graduate of Dayton High School. He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Smicksburg where he was a Sunday School Superintendent for twenty years. George was employed from 1961 until 1977 with A.H. Hoffman Seed Company where he worked as a salesman. His career accomplishments include the outstanding sales award from 1963 through 1977. Much of George’s life was devoted to the dairy farm he and Leona owned and operated in West Mahoning Township until selling their cattle in 1975. He continued to assist with the family farm for many years following his retirement. George was a member of the Indiana Co-Extension for five years where he held the office of Vice President in 1971 and President in 1974 and a charter member of the Indiana County Farm Bureau.

He was a man of the outdoors where he enjoyed a lifetime of camping, fishing, and gardening. In addition to the many wonderful winters spent in Florida escaping the Dayton cold, George and Leona had a penchant for adventure, traveling extensively during their retirement to many places including Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, and eight countries in Europe. They also took a cruise to South America including a seven island tour.

He will be deeply missed by his son-in-law, David C. Brickell of Smicksburg; a daughter-in-law, Robin Good of Smicksburg; five grandchildren, Michele L. Buhite and husband Jeremy of Kittanning, PA, Andrea J. Plummer and husband Steve of Seneca, PA, Erin L. York and husband Mitch of Seneca, PA, Amanda Long of Smicksburg, PA, and Timothy Good of Smicksburg; ten great-grandchildren, Jocelyn E. and Camden R. Buhite, Jillian M. and Olivia J. Plummer, Mikayla O. and Mackenzie G. Wenmoth, Brittany and Jesse York, and Cameron and Carson Long; and two sisters, Aileen Martin of Dayton, PA, and Edith Rankin of Sykesville, MD.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 66 years who died December 5, 2009, Leona O. Good; and his two children, Ronna J. Brickell, and Roger W. Good.

Family and friends and will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home in Dayton.

Additional visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Smicksburg Salem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arlene Schweitzer officiating.

Burial will follow in the Smicksburg Lutheran Cemetery in West Mahoning Township, Indiana County.
