I have the feeling something historic is going to happen this season in the Double-AA Allegheny Conference. If you consider Ford City and Shady Side as playoff locks, then that still leaves two spots very wide open. ? For the majority of this conference every game will be like the playoffs. Freeport and Burrell have the tradition but both lost a ton of players from last season. The door is open for Apollo Ridge who will look to impress in their new stadium. Also, Deer Lakes and Summit Academy, two football programs that have never reached the playoffs, have a legitimate chance this year. How can a casual fan not root for them? While not a playoff contender, I also expect West Shamokin to field an improving squad this fall.
