OBIT: Donald C. Henderson (Manor Township)
Donald C. Henderson, 79, of Manor Township, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010, in his home.
Born June 8, 1931, the in the village of Gastown, PA, he was a son of the late Kingsley and Virginia (Reefer) Henderson.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement on June 1, 1992, he was the manager of the design and model shop of Eljer Manufacturing, Ford City, with 37 years of service. He then worked at Arner’s Hardware and Dobi Catering and Food Service.
Mr. Henderson was a past exalted ruler for the Kittanning Elks #203. He was also a life member of Manor Township Fire Company, a charter member of Rayburn Township Fire Company, and served as the vacancy chairman for the Manor Township supervisors. He enjoyed his family, traveling, and keeping busy.
He is survived by his wife, Nanette “Bunny” (Hromadik) Henderson; his children, Diana (Robert) Bure of Ford City, David Henderson of Alexandria, VA, Gregory (Kathy) Herbst of Ford City, Donald (Annette) Herbst of Sarver, and Nanette Herbst of Ligonier; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy (Paul Edward) Hromadik of Ford City; and a brother, Kingsley Henderson of Moreno Valley, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, David Henderson.
Friends will be received on Saturday, August 21, from 2-4 PM and from 6 PM until the time of funeral services at 8 PM in the Welch Funeral Home in Ford City. Pastor Lloyd Riggle will officiate.
