Car fanatics spent time wiping drool from their mouths as many participants showed up for the Kit-Han-Ne Car Cruise yesterday from 4PM until 8PM on the grounds of the Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Kit-Han-Ne Car Club President Bobbi Jensen was one of the many proud cruisers to bring her car to the cruise as she pulled up in her 1962 Thunderbird. The Kit-Han-Ne Car Cruise is usually held on the third Wednesday of the month from May through September, and it has been going on for quite some time. “It’s been happening for several years,” said Jensen. “It’s been going on since the 50s at the Cadet, and then we started it again over ten years ago.”
As Jensen mentioned, the Kit-Han-Ne Car Cruise has been frequently held at The Cadet Restaurant located at 13514 US Route 422. However, due to the construction of the new Sheetz, the car club had to find a new location temporarily. “Hopefully, we will continue going to The Cadet next month when Sheetz is done,” said Jensen.
Although the Car Cruise is a frequent event, participants don’t seem to be in short supply. “We get over 60 cars usually,” said Jensen. “We have a DJ, a 50/50, the firemen make a lot of different food, we give out dash plaques to all of the cars and a goodie bag with different things that we get from different places, and that’s basically it. We have a good turnout. We have a lot of regulars, and then we get a lot of people that come from other areas; we have a lot of friends from other car clubs that come, and it’s a lot of fun.”
According to Jensen, the event is called a “cruise” because it is not a judged show. “We ask for a $5 donation because it helps us pay for dash plaques and everything, but basically it’s not required. It’s just a donation,” she said.
Anyone interested in participating in future Car Cruises or any other Kit-Han-Ne Car Club events can log on to the organization’s website at www.kithannecarclub.com or call Bobbi Jensen at 724-297-5542.
